Your dog’s daily once-over!

Do you check your dog over daily?

I do. All three of ‘em.

They can’t tell you what’s wrong - that there’s a matt tweaking their ear, or some ticks on their neck, a cleaver caught in their trousers, a strange bump on their ribcage …

So it’s up to us to don the deerstalker and find out how we can help them.

It’s so quick and easy to do!

A lot of this can be done by eye.

Just watch how they get up from bed in the morning, how they’re walking. Do they eliminate with ease first thing?

Are they eager for breakfast?

Eyes and ears clear?

Generally happy in themselves?

Then the rest can be done in the form of cuddles!

Feeling over your dog - all over - can be done very fast. Start behind the ears and work backwards.

Beasties round the back of the neck (their favourite place, and the quickest way to find them).

Matts in the tail, trousers, armpits, possible chafing/tangling points from their harness or collar. Many dogs with fluffy hair behind the ears can get painful matts just there.

Check the feet, the toes, the claws. Overdue for a trim? Quite possibly!

Brushing your dog will uncover anything else. Teach your dog to love being brushed and handled from a very early age. And choose the type of brush or comb to suit that particular dog.

I have a selection of rakes, slicker brushes, combs, grooming gloves, and shedding combs. Each coat-type responds well to particular implements.

A bit of trial and error will get you to the ones that work best for your dog. Here’s one I can recommend, to get you started.
